THE BUS

By the end of the 70s Fulda had been a small town close to the inner German border in West Germany. It was known as a catholic diaspora in the protestant federal state of Hessen. The huge stone monument of Bonifatius with a cross in one hand and a sword in the other with the old baroque cathedral in the back dominated the entrance of the old city. Live was shaped by a strong catholic tradition. But this tradition was threatened by new ideas forced by young local people and the small college for social work.

A group of young people who wanted to make a difference got together and formed their own world without the social bands of family, school and society. They organized their own music festival and rented an old farm right outside of the town where they were alone and felt free. This self-organized environment released an explosion of creativity. They called themselves The Onion.
